For the first time, I have decided to enjoy
Bloggers Quilt Festival.
Santa Maria.
I made this quilt for my son, Lasse.
The process started in 2005.
I wanted to make him a quilt, and asked him what he wanted on it.
I wanted to make him a quilt, and asked him what he wanted on it.
He answered quickly: "Santa Maria, the boat of Christoffer Colombus."
This was a great challenge.
I started collecting blue fabrics for the sea and sky.
Then Lasse helped me draving the boat, which is appliqued by machine.
The Storm at Sea - block is used around as a frame.
I must admit that I had some difficulties calculating here.....
...but I really wanted to use this block, and found a way of doing it.
I have spent a lot of time with it
(thinking, sewing, planning...put it away... and started again).
I have learned a lot, and really enjoyed it.
In the Storm at Sea - area, I wanted the quilting to look like water.
And in the corners I have put some of the difficulties Colombus had to cope with;
dangerous, unknown seas...
